Both as part of an assignment, and then further pursued in my own time with other models, I looked at exporting animations and models into custom engines using .x format. Although perhaps not the best format to use, it did help in learning the export procedure and some tricks to get animations looping correctly, and the models to be a suitable polygon count.You can download the results with .x loaders here and here. Either load the contained .exe, or open the .exe and open the .x from within the application. Although the .x loaders are obviously not mine, they were really useful in perfecting the export process as it meant the models didn't have to be tested in the engine with each export.
